What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder which involves carbohydrate, water and fat metabolism due to acute deficiency and/or insulin resistance. Insulin is a hormone responsible for glucose metabolism. Its deficiency for resistance to the actives of insulin leud leads to elevated blood sugar levels.

Diabetes is suspected in individuals having recent weight problems, increased thirst, increased urination, increased appetite, delayed or non healing wounds etc. It may even be detected in screening. Since diabetes involves multiple symptoms such as heat, eyes, blood vessels and brain, the disease should be diagnosed as early as possible, should be controlled and regularly monitored to prevent or delay the complications.
